Cebu History(Brief history) سيبو التاريخ (تاريخ موجز)
Cebu , a small sleepy fishng village and a trading port. In the early 16th century, the island is a favorite stop of voyagers , traders and colonizers. It was in 1521, the explorer Ferdinand magellan landed here. The Ruler of Cebu, King Humabon and Queen Juana welcomed the visitors and not long became the first Christian Filipinos together with the other 700 natives. Ferdinand Magellan planted a wooden crucifix at the site of their baptism, now known as the Magellan’s Cross. And gave Queen Juana a memorable gift, the statue of the Child Jesus , Senor Sto Nino. The original statue stands until to this day at His home, the Basilica Minore del Sto Nino, Cebu City. Cebu is the Seat of Christianity in the Philippines. In 1865, the Spanish returned and built fort and settlements making Cebu the Capital of the Philippines for six years. The oldest church and school in the country were also built during those days. At present, Cebu famous on stretches of clean, pearl white sand beaches, coral gardens and aqua crystal waters are visited by a great numbers of local and international tourists.
